Child Support Issues Can Arise after Finalization of Divorce
When a couple residing in Salt Lake City decides to seek a divorce there are many matters that will need to be addressed. In addition to the division of assets and debts, when the marriage has produced children, child custody and support matters will need to be addressed as well. These often highly emotional matters can be difficult to resolve.
Unfortunately, they are not necessarily said and done one a divorce becomes final. This is illustrated in the current child support dispute between professional basketball player Steve Nash and his ex-wife with whom he has three children.
According to Nash’s ex-wife, the member of the Lakers has stopped paying child support. In addition, he is trying to prevent her from moving to Los Angeles so that their children can be closer to their dad. She believes that his desire to keep them in Arizona is due to the way in which the courts in that state have handled the matter thus far. They have not made him pay the money owed.
The matter is scheduled for trial next week. In the meantime, Nash’s ex-wife has been ordered to stay in Arizona.
The issues Nash and his wife are dealing with are not limited to those who are rich and famous. Individuals from all walks of life can find themselves facing disputes regarding child support after a divorce has been finalized. Just as it is important to be represented by a lawyer familiar with these types of actions when a divorce is in process, so too is it important to have one to help with matters after it is finalized.
